In-person: In a small group, complete the following on the piece of paper provided to you:

Choose any photograph from a newspaper. Write a caption for the photograph using the SHOWED questions:

  • What do you see or how do we name the problem?
  • What is really happening?
  • How does the story relate to our lives?
  • Why does this problem exist?
  • How might we be empowered now that we have a better understanding of the problem?
  • What can we do about it?

You can elaborate on the caption by using the 3 W’s:

  • What do you see?
  • What does it mean to you?
  • What can you do about it?

In response to the image, present the SHOWED responses to the large group.

Describe a hypothetical potential community art counsellor intervention/social action project. (i.e.: What can you do about it?)

Online: In a Zoom breakout room, in a small group. On Jamboard choose any one of the supplied newspaper images. Write a caption for the photograph using the SHOWED questions as above.

In the big group, give feedback about your planned hypothetical intervention.
